KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has been appointed as the new Inspector-General of Police.

Mohd Khalid, who was previously the Bukit Aman Special Branch department director, takes over as the country’s top cop from Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The handing over ceremony on Friday (June 20) was witnessed by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

Prior to the ceremony, Mohd Khalid was given the appointment letter as IGP and bestowed the rank of IGP by Saifuddin.

With the conclusion of the ceremony, Razarudin officially concluded his service as IGP, marking the end of his two-year tenure at the helm of the police force.

Appointed on June 23, 2023, Razarudin served as the 14th IGP, succeeding Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

Born on March 15, 1963, in Dengkil, Selangor, Razarudin holds a Master’s degree in Social Science (Police Studies) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

He began his policing career in 1984 as an Investigating Officer at the Kedah State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Over the years, he held several key positions within the force, including assistant director of the D9 Division in Bukit Aman’s CID, Deputy Commander of the Special Task Force on Organised Crime (STAFOC), Head of Penang CID, and Deputy Police Commissioner of Sabah.

He later served as Perak deputy police chief for two years before being promoted to Perak police chief. He also served as Director of the Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department and, in 2021, was appointed Deputy Inspector-General of Police—a role he held until his elevation to the top post in June 2023.

Razarudin is married to Puan Sri Zainah Othman, and the couple has five children.
