SEPANG: Seven Afghan nationals, including two children, have been detained at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for attempting to enter Malaysia using fake travel documents.

The Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) reported that the arrests followed two attempts to use forged visas at the airport’s Terminal 1.

“Those detained were seven Afghan nationals, consisting of five adults and two children. They arrived in two batches – the first group on Sunday morning (July 13) and the other on Tuesday night (July 15),” the agency stated on Friday (July 18).

Acting on gathered intelligence, AKPS officers scrutinised the suspects’ travel documents and uncovered discrepancies.

“Initial investigations revealed that the group had used forged visas, believed to have been obtained in Uzbekistan, in their bid to enter Malaysia.

“They claimed to have fled Iran and intended to make Malaysia their final destination,” the agency explained.

All seven individuals were denied entry for violating immigration laws and attempting to use fraudulent documents.

“The swift action taken by our officers reflects AKPS’s ongoing commitment to uphold the highest standards of border security and to prevent illegal migration.

“Malaysia’s entry points will not be compromised, and we pledge to maintain stringent screening processes to ensure national safety,” the agency affirmed.
