KAJANG: A man suspected of being involved in an attempted snatch theft died after he was stopped and allegedly assaulted by members of the public in a residential area near Batu 9, Cheras.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said police received an emergency call at 11.10am on Tuesday (July 22) about a snatch theft attempt involving a 36-year-old woman working in a nearby kindergarten.

“Initial investigation revealed that the male suspect was detained by people at the scene.

“Police personnel were dispatched and found the man unconscious and lying on the ground with visible injuries,” he said in a statement on Friday (July 25).

Medical personnel later confirmed the man had died, believed to be the result of a beating, he added.

“The suspect had no identification documents and is believed to be a foreign national.

“A post-mortem was conducted on the same day, and the cause of death is currently pending laboratory analysis by a forensic pathologist,” he said.

ACP Naazron said eight locals aged between 22 and 72 were detained at 7.46pm on the day of the incident.

“They have been remanded for six days until Monday (July 28) to assist in the ongoing investigation.

“The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
