SEPANG: One of the main challenges for Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain is transforming officers of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency to be capable of handling tasks for multiple agencies.

The new director-general stated that it was his goal to develop officers who are versatile in their responsibilities.

“For example, an Immigration officer (under the agency) should be able to perform the duties of Customs officers and other agencies under us.

“They must be able to perform multi-dimensional work. They must not only be open to it; they must be more professional in accepting these changes,” he told reporters after his working visit to KL International Airport (KLIA) on Tuesday (July 8).

Comm Mohd Shuhaily said that to achieve his goal, he needs to unite all the various agencies under his agency to become one unit or family.

“That is why it is important for me to go down to the ground and see how the men and women of the agency are doing,” he said, adding that his agency was in charge of 22 entry points nationwide.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily said his working visit was also aimed at improving the work of his personnel and officers in terms of standard operating procedures and facilities.

“It is a priority to ensure that facilities at our entry points are of international standard.

“There are many administrative issues that my team and I have to solve soon to ensure the agency’s effectiveness and efficiency,” he said.

Comm Mohd Shuhaily officially started work as the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency director-general on July 1.

He was previously the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director.
