JOHOR BARU: The Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission has recommended a series of measures for the Johor Environment Department to bolster enforcement against recycling companies, particularly in Segamat.

Key recommendations include increasing penalties for repeat offenders, enhancing and standardising enforcement guidelines across all levels, and immediately implementing new compound guidelines.

In its statement, the agency called for stricter enforcement on all premises that violate environmental regulations.

“Attention should be paid to those who carry out repeated wrongdoing,” the statement emphasised.

These recommendations followed a complaint against the Johor Environment Department for inaction regarding an illegal recycling factory in an industrial estate in Segamat. The agency’s investigation revealed that all the alleged premises possessed valid operating licences.

“However, we found weaknesses in the enforcement aspect, despite the existence of laws and procedures,” the statement noted.
