PETALING JAYA: The tragic bus accident in Gerik that claimed the lives of 15 students from Sultan Idris Education University was primarily caused by excessive speed while navigating a downhill curve, according to a preliminary report by the special task force set up by the Transport Ministry.
The report, released after thorough investigation, revealed that the bus lost control and overturned to the left side of the road on June 9. Trajectory analysis, vehicle movement reconstruction, and assessment of the curve’s critical speed indicated that the bus was driven at a speed exceeding the safe limit for that section of the road.
The bus overturned onto its left side before colliding with a W-beam guardrail. The guardrail penetrated the cabin area, leading to serious injuries and fatalities among the passengers.
