KUALA LUMPUR: The “Turun Anwar” rally ended peacefully, with no untoward incident occuring, says Deputy Comm Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad.

The acting Kuala Lumpur police chief said the rally went smoothly with no police reports lodged on the day of the event.

“Thank you to all participants of the rally for abiding by the rules and regulations and not resorting to any sort of provocation.

“We estimated about 18,000 participants took part in the rally and it went smoothly with no major problem occuring,” he told reporters at Dataran Merdeka on Saturday (July 26).

In terms of the content of the speeches by leaders of various political parties, DCP Mohamed Usuf said the police will analyse it first.

“If any of the speeches touched on sensitive issues, we will take action.

“As per any rally, we will conduct a post-mortem of the event and study what can be improved upon.

“We will also need to analyse the event further before deciding whether to call up the organisers,” he said.

He also advised organisers to be more transparent for future rallies so that the police will be able to know what they wanted and could discuss the matter thoroughly.

“Our side is looking at the safety aspect (at the rally).

“If there is any element that we don’t allow, it is for safety reasons,” he added.
