KOTA KINABALU: A group of “Abang Bomba” from the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department wore different hats for the last two days as they shifted focus from rescue work to cleaning up flood-hit schools.

Responding to requests from schools here and in Penampang was part of the department’s corporate social responsibility efforts, said its senior assistant fire commander Mohd Ishak Amran.

“To date, we have responded to four requests, from three schools in Kota Kinabalu and one in Penampang. There are a few more (on the waiting list),” he said, adding that a team of eight men would be dispatched for each operation.

He said that on Tuesday (July 2), the Lintas fire station crew cleaned SK Inanam Laut and SK Kitobu Inanam, while the Penampang station responded to a request from SK St Theresa Inobong.

“Today, the Lintas fire station cleaned up SK Rampayan Laut with assistance from teachers, support staff and school landscape workers,” he said on Wednesday (July 3).

Mohd Ishak said currently, the “cleaning service” is focused on schools, and those in need of help may contact the nearest fire station.
