Two people were arrested after Dane County deputies tracked the vehicle they allegedly stole with an AirTag on June 6.

A Dane County woman reported the vehicle, a Dodge Caravan, missing from her Pleasant Springs home around 7.15pm. An Apple AirTag inside the vehicle sent real-time updates on the vehicle’s location to the woman’s phone, which deputies and Madison Police officers used to track the van to a Madison liquor store, according to a statement from Sheriff’s Officespokesperson Elise Schaffer.

The driver, 48, of Madison, was arrested on a pending charge of operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent. His passenger, a 26-year-old Madison woman, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and a probation violation.

On the scene, deputies administered Narcan to the woman when she started exhibiting signs of an overdose. She was taken to a local hospital for evaluation after regaining consciousness, Schaffer said.

The man and the woman were both taken to the Dane County Jail. – The Wisconsin State Journal/Tribune News Service
