Bashundhara group distributed sewing machines to 200 women after training for free sewing training and self-employment in 10 upazilas of Comilla with the aim of making poor and disadvantaged women self-reliant.

Bashundhara Group, the leading industrial group of the country, gave sewing machines to poor women of 10 upazilas of Comilla district.

After 5 months of training in the school premises established by Bashundhara Shubasangh to make self-supporting widows, abandoned husbands and helpless women of 10 upazilas, a sewing machine distribution ceremony was organized for them officially free of cost.

Sewing machines were distributed among 200 female trainees at Comilla Victoria Government College Auditorium on Saturday (June 29) noon.

Member of Parliament of Comilla Sadar Constituency Veer Muktijoddha AKM Bahauddin Bahar MP was present as the chief guest on the occasion.

Bashundhara group’s visionary poet Imdadul Haque Milon, editor-in-chief of Kaler Kanth presided over the event, Comilla-4 Member of Parliament Abul Kalam Azad, District Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan (BPM Bar), Additional District Commissioner (General) Pankaj Barua, Science Mo Tarikul Islam Chowdhury, founding president of the University of Technology, Kaler Kanth, publisher of Bangladesh Pratidin, advisor of Bashundhara Group, Moynal Hossain Chowdhury.

Hajera Begum (55) of Chauddagram Upazila, who received a gift of sewing machine, said, I am a widow. My two children, after the death of my husband, I am in dire straits, they do not take care of me, I am trained to operate a sewing machine for earning. Now I can earn my own food with sewing machine. I am eternally grateful to Bashundhara Shuvasangha.’

Maria Akhter (24), who got a sewing machine, thanked the Bashundhara group and said, “My dream was to continue my studies after my father died 6 months ago. I got a little disappointed because of my mother’s death 6 months ago. I got a sewing machine today with training organized by the Bashundhara group’s Shubasangha initiative. My dream has come true. I am grateful to Bashundhara Group. Besides, many helpless women like me have become self-reliant through this training and given light from darkness
