US PRESIDENT Joe Biden called up Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday and congratulated him and the NDA on their victoryand the “nearly 650 million voters in this historic election”.
After the call, Modi said in a post on X: “Happy to receive call from my friend President @JoeBiden. Deeply value his warm words of congratulations and his appreciation for Indian democracy. Conveyed that India-US Comprehensive Global Partnership is poised to witness many new landmarks in the years to come. Our partnership will continue to be a force for global good for the benefit of humanity.”
In a post on X, President Biden said, “Congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance on their victory, and the nearly 650 million voters in this historic election. The friendship between our nations is only growing as we unlock a shared future of unlimited potential.”
Besides Biden, Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu, Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Egypt President Abdel Fatah El Sisi were among the world leaders who congratulated Prime Minister Modi for the victory of the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, officials in Delhi, Colombo and Dhaka confirmed that Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Bangladesh Prime Minister Hasina are among the leaders who have been invited for the swearing-in ceremony.
On the re-election, Putin and Sunak also called up Modi to convey their wishes.
In the phone call, Kremlin said, President Putin “warmheartedly congratulated Narendra Modi on the success of the BJP in the general parliamentary elections that finished a few days ago. This reflects the support of the political course pursued by the Indian leadership, recognition of the results achieved in the country’s socioeconomic development, and its strengthening international authority.”
Sunak, who faces elections on July 4, in a post on X said, “Today I spoke to @narendramodi to congratulate him on his election victory. The UK and India share the closest of friendships, and together that friendship will continue to thrive.”
Chinese ambassador to India Xu Feihong took to X and posted: “Congratulations to Prime Minister Modi @narendramodi, BJP and BJP-led NDA on the victory in the #Loksabhaelection. Look forward to making joint efforts with the Indian side for a sound and stable China-India relationship, which is in line with the interests and expectations of both countries, the region and the world.”
Congratulating Modi, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson in a message on X said Beijing was looking forward to a “healthy and stable China-India relationship”.
French President Macron said, “India has concluded the world’s largest elections! Congratulations @NarendraModi, my dear friend. Together we will continue strengthening the strategic partnership that unites India and France.”
Leaders from Mauritius, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Maldives were among the first ones to wish Modi on Tuesday itself even before the final results were out, while Italian PM Meloni posted on X late night — being the first G7 country — congratulating Modi for the victory.
“Congratulations to @narendramodi on the new electoral victory and my warmest wishes for good work. We will continue to work together to strengthen the friendship that unites Italy and India and consolidate cooperation on the various issues that bind us,” she said.
Modi is expected to travel to Italy for the G-7 leaders’ summit on June 13-15.
Ukraine President Zelenskyy said, “I welcome the successful holding of the world’s largest democratic elections in India. Congratulations to Prime Minister @NarendraModi, the BJP, and BJP-led NDA on the third consecutive victory in India’s parliamentary elections. I wish the people of India peace and prosperity, and I hope for continued cooperation between our countries. India and Ukraine share common values and a rich history. May our partnership continue to thrive, bringing progress and mutual understanding for our nations.”
“Everyone in the world recognizes the significance and weight of India’s role in global affairs. It is critical that we all work together to ensure a just peace for all nations. In this regard, we also look forward to seeing India attend the Peace Summit,” he said, reiterating the expectation that Delhi will send a representation to the peace conference in Switzerland on June 15-16.
Describing Modi’s victory on X “historic”, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said: “Congratulations @narendramodi on the historic victory by the NDA for the third consecutive term. Look forward to working with you to deepen the Singapore-India partnership and to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year.”
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also conveyed her congratulations on the “resounding victory” of NDA-led by BJP. “As the leader of the largest democracy in the world you carry the hopes and aspirations of the people of India. Your convincing victory is a testament to the trust and confidence that the people of India have reposed in your leadership, commitment and unwavering dedication for the country.”
South Korea, Japan, UAE, Iran, Seychelles, Malaysia, Austria, EU, Argentina, Cambodia, Sweden, Greece, Denmark, Norway, Latvia, Netherlands and Lithuania were among others who also congratulated Modi. From Africa, presidents of Nigeria, Kenya, Comoros and leaders of Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana from the Caribbean islands sent congratulatory messages to Modi.
