IIT Kharagpur scholarships: Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT K) provides scholarships to worthy and deserving students every year. While some are in the form of college fee concessions, others come as direct benefit transfers to the students’ bank accounts.

These are awarded from the institute funds. The institute shall award scholarships based on merit-cum-means to all eligible students of the four-year BTech(Hons), five years dual degree, five years BArch(Hons), and five years integrated MSc courses and 4 year BS programme, under the following rules:

1. All students admitted to any of the 4 year BTech(Hons), 5 year Dual Degree, 5 year BArch(Hons), and 5 year Integrated MSc courses and 4 year BS program, except the students belonging to SC and ST (who are eligible for post-matric scholarship of their respective state governments), and the students who fulfill the conditions hereinafter appearing shall be eligible for the award of the merit-cum-means (MCM).

2. These will be awarded to not more than 25 percent of the students admitted each year to the Undergraduate and Dual Degree courses.

3. The value of these shall be as determined by the board of governors from time to time.

4. All MCM scholarship holders will be entitled to exemption from payment of institute tuition fees. They shall, however, be required to pay all other prescribed fees.

5. The MCM will be payable for all 12 months of the academic session, from July of one year to June of the following year.

6. Scholarships for July shall be paid in full regardless of the date in July when the Institute reopens after the Summer Vacation, provided the student joins the Institute on the prescribed date of registration. Otherwise, the scholarship for July shall be paid on a pro-rata basis.

7. No student will be permitted to enjoy more than one scholarship during the same period. In the event of an awardee becoming eligible for another scholarship from any other source, he will have the option to accept either of the two. In such a case he/she is required to communicate in writing his/her choice to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies.

8. The initial award of the scholarship and its annual renewal through proper application shall be governed by the following conditions

– The student satisfies the merit criterion laid down for the award of these scholarships.

– The parent/guardian of the student satisfies the means criterion laid down for the award of the scholarship.

– No disciplinary action has been taken or pending against him/her during the preceding year.

9. He/She has not been punished under examination malpractice and involved in violation of the code of conduct at any period in the Institute/Hall of Residence/Department/Gymkhana etc.

10. The merit criterion for the award of the scholarship shall be as follows:

11. For fresh entrants, the student should have obtained at least 60 per cent marks in aggregate or a grade corresponding to 60 per cent marks in the qualifying examination for JEE Advanced.

12. For subsequent renewals, the student’s performance in the two consecutive semesters of the preceding session, ie GPA, as updated after the supplementary/summer quarter examination, must not be lower than 7.00 (Senate 287.HI12)

13. Students will be eligible for merit-cum-means (MCM) and other Institute Scholarships even if EAA is not completed (Senate – 322.HIC5).

14. Also, the scholarship is to be resumed on re-joining the students who are on temporary withdrawal on medical grounds/family calamity, subject to eligibility and approval of the competent authority.

2. Endowment and alumni funded scholarships

These scholarships are awarded through an endowment fund and the rules that govern such awards are stated below:

– The term best student used in the following paragraphs means the student who besides fulfilling other general conditions has secured the highest CGPA in the immediately preceding semester among all the students of the same batch.

IIT Kharagpur on April 1 has announced several reforms in its UG programs for sessions starting from the academic year 2024-25. The reforms are in line with the National Educational Policy (NEP 2020), IIT Kharagpur said.
