After flying a plane from Phuket, Thailand, to New Delhi, India, the pilot was arrested in an intoxicated state by Air India. Upon return to India, the pilot underwent a breathalyzer (BA) test, which revealed alcohol consumption,In an intoxicated state the pilot was dismissed for flying the plane.

The airline has stated that there is zero tolerance for such behavior, and they have taken stringent measures. Suspending the pilot’s services is not the only action being taken; flying under the influence of alcohol is considered a criminal offense, and plans are underway to file an FIR. The matter has been reported to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

International flight crew members are usually tested before flights, as alcohol is not served on any flight within India.

If unsuccessful for the second time, the license is suspended for three years. If caught for a third time, the license is revoked entirely.
