SEPANG: Leave it to the authorities to decide on any action to be taken against rallygoers supporting former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Monday (Jan 6), says Fahmi Fadzil.
The Communications Minister said this aligns with the statements issued by the palace and police previously.
“Should the authorities deem it necessary to take action, we will leave it to them to implement the appropriate actions,” the government spokesman said when met after the launch of the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 event here on Monday (Jan 6).
On Jan 3, Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said Umno would not proceed with the rally, following a statement from Istana Negara and advice from the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
The IGP had also advised all parties to respect the powers of the King.
“To respect the decree of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and maintain public safety and order, the police urge the public not to participate in any rallies organised by any party,” he said in a statement on Jan 3.
The rally, initially planned in conjunction with the Court of Appeal hearing on the alleged addendum for Najib on Monday (Jan 6), has drawn bipartisan backing, including from PAS.
The rally saw more than 900 supporters gathering to show their support for the former prime minister.
Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm Aidi Sham Mohamed said that the crowd had mostly gathered at the back and front right side of the Palace of Justice.
