KOTA KINABALU: A routine breakfast outside his home in Kampung Kurnia Jaya Batu 4 home turned violent for a 50-year-old Tawau man when he was attacked with a machete on Wednesday (Oct 23) at 7.30am, leaving him severely injured.

Tawau District Police Chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the assailant, a foreign man in his 30s and known to the victim, was arrested by CID officers from the Tawau District Police Headquarters several hours after the attack.

“The victim’s son reported that his father was attacked by someone he knew while sitting outside their home,” ACP Jasmin said on Thursday (Oct 24).

The police have since recovered a machete believed to have been used in the attack and are investigating under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for immigration violations by the suspect.

While the victim is recuperating from injuries that needed seven stitches, the exact motive of the assault remains under investigation, with police not ruling out the likelihood of a personal dispute gone awry.

The suspect is currently detained at the Tawau District Police Headquarters pending further inquiries.
