RECENTLY, a viral video showed a man running away with a handful of gold from a jewellery store.
The video began with a man walking into the jewellery store and showing interest in buying some gold. When presented with the jewellery he requested, and while the shopkeeper was calculating the price of the gold, he grabbed the trinkets and ran.
It was said that the incident happened in Penang. Is this true?

Central Seberang Perai OCPD Asst Comm Helmi Aris, in a Facebook post on June 5, said the incident occurred in Perda Utama, Bukit Mertajam, on May 31.
“The police arrested the suspect in Sungai Petani, Kedah, on the same day.
“Further investigation found that the suspect is a local man in his 30s and has three previous criminal records,” he added.
According to a Sinar Harian report, on 5 June 2024, the suspect was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court, and the stolen gold had been recovered.
The suspect pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
