PETALING JAYA: Rolling road closures will be implemented in Kuala Lumpur and other affected areas in conjunction with the 58th Asean Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and Related Meetings.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said in a statement on Friday (July 4) that the closures would take place from July 8 to July 11.
“Roadblocks will be conducted in stages at three highways and 15 main roads around the Klang Valley.
“A dry run for the motorcade — covering routes from the airports to the respective hotels in Kuala Lumpur and the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre — will be carried out from July 4 to July 6. This will involve around 391 traffic policemen and officers,” he said.
He advised road users to plan their journeys in advance and to use public transportation where possible.
“Commercial and heavy vehicles are advised to avoid entering the city centre during the road closure period, especially during peak hours, to prevent congestion and reduce the risk of accidents and breakdowns.
“The public is urged to cooperate with the police on the ground. Their cooperation is greatly appreciated, as it will reflect the nation’s image as one with disciplined and courteous road users,” he said.
Among the affected roads are the MEX Highway, Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Jalan Ampang and Jalan Bukit Bintang.
Traffic flow in several parts of Kuala Lumpur is expected to be disrupted during the 58th AMM, which is scheduled to take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from July 8 to 11.
On Tuesday, the Asean Main Logistics Secretariat at Wisma Putra said traffic disruptions are expected to begin as early as this Friday, within a 1km radius of the KLCC area and along major roads and highways connecting the city’s main entry points.
