KOTA TINGGI: A Rohingya couple has pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court here to charges of housebreaking, stealing and possession of stolen property including cash and jewellery.

Norjahan Ismail, 34, was slapped with 13 charges while her husband, Muhammad Ibrahim Md Yusof, 24, faced 11 charges after allegedly breaking into several houses around Kota Tinggi and Mersing between March and September 2024.

Norjahan’s three daughters, aged 13, 14 and 17, and her son-in-law, Mohamad Jamal, 19, who are all Rohingya, were also charged with entering Malaysia without valid documents.

Magistrate Nurkhalida Farhana Abu Bakar did not allow bail and fixed Nov 14 for re-mention of the case.

On Tuesday, Johor police chief Datuk M Kumar reportedly said that police had busted a string of burglaries led by a woman mastermind who had 54 records of burglary cases in several states. – Bernama
