NIBONG TEBAL: The last 48 hours before polling day are crucial to get as many voters as possible to turn up and vote.

Penang Pakatan Harapan chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the coalition’s focus now is to ensure voters, especially those from outstation, cast their votes on polling day on Saturday (July 6).

“Coincidentally, Monday is also a replacement public holiday.

“Hopefully, with three to four days off, young people who may be working outside of Penang can take the opportunity to visit their parents as well as vote on Saturday,” he said.

Earlier, Chow entertained about 100 members of the media and Information Department staff members at the South Seberang Prai Complex.

About 300kg of premium durians were provided for journalists and photographers at the state Information Department media centre in conjunction with the Sungai Bakap state by-election.

Chow, who is also DAP chairman, said the party campaigned during the by-election as a unity coalition.

“We are here as a unity government coalition, not as the DAP,” he said.

The July 6 by-election will witness a straight fight between Pakatan candidate Dr Joohari Ariffin and Perikatan Nasional’s Abidin Ismail, following the demise of the incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24.
