SIBU: A housewife has been sentenced to four months’ jail by a Magistrate’s Court here after she pleaded guilty to stealing three tins of nutritional formula for diabetics from a pharmacy.

Magistrate Romario Jonoi ordered the 24-year-old accused to serve the sentence from the date of her arrest, June 22.

According to the charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code, the woman was accused of stealing the items from a pharmacy at Lorong Chew Siik Hiong 1 at about 4.30pm on June 21.

Section 380 provides for a jail term of up to 10 years and also a fine if convicted.

At about 4.30pm on the day in question, the complainant – who works at the pharmacy – saw a woman and her two children enter the premises.

According to the charge sheet, the woman stood by the entrance behaving suspiciously while the children went to the counter to buy candy.

The complainant checked the CCTV footage after they left and saw the woman taking something from a shelf near the entrance.

The complainant then found that three tins of nutritional formula worth about RM350 in total were missing, believed they had been taken by the accused, and lodged a police report.

At 10.40pm the following day, police arrested the accused at a rented house here.

She then led them to a grocery store in Lorong Oya 5 where the stolen items were found.

It was learnt that she had sold them to the shop for RM210.
