MELAKA: A music teacher was remanded for a week after he allegedly molested a 16-year-old student at a hotel in Batu Berendam here.

Majistret Khairunnisak Hassni ordered the 42-year-old suspect to be remanded for a week after the latter was produced at the court complex at Ayer Keroh here on Saturday(June 8)

Melaka police are currently probing the suspect, who teaches at a secondary school in Selangor, under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Based on the information shared by a reliable source, the suspect had allegedly sneaked into the room at a hotel in Batu Berendam where the student was sleeping before he was molested at about midnight.

Three other students attending a national-level “Gamelan” music festival in February witnessed the act.

Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainol Samah would give a statement on the incident later on Saturday night.
