NIBONG TEBAL: Umno’s doors remain open to any former member who wants to rejoin the party, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“Whoever wants to come back to Umno, we will definitely study it first,” he said after officiating the pre-launch of the Penang Pre-Tahfiz Kemas programme at Institut Kemahiran Tinggi Perda, here on Tuesday (July 2).

Ahmad Zahid was asked about former Jeli MP and minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed who quit Bersatu and wants to rejoin Umno.

He said the Umno disciplinary bureau would look into any application from ex-Umno members.

Last month, Mustafa, who is also known as Tok Pa, confirmed that he would not contest elections any more as he had retired from politics.

He also said had given up his Bersatu membership and position in September 2023.

Mustafa left Umno in 2018 after more than four decades.

On the Sungai Bakap by-election, Ahmad Zahid said Umno has its own methods to attract the youth and that the party election machinery had implemented several programmes.

“We have more than 5000 Umno voters in Sungai Bakap and it’s the focus of our machinery during the campaign,” he said.
