JOHOR BARU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) water supply issue will soon be fully resolved, says Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
He added that the Sabah government has taken steps to overcome the university’s water supply shortage.
“I have already met with Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor to discuss the problem, and he has shown his commitment to resolve it.
“We expect the problem to be solved either by the end of this year or early 2025,” he added.
Zambry, who is also Barisan secretary-general, said this in a press conference after officiating the closing ceremony of the Johor Barisan convention, which was held here on Saturday (June 8).
He added that he was following the water supply problem which UMS students raised.
During a working visit to Kota Kinabalu on May 31 last year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the federal government would channel RM3mil to the Sabah government to solve the university’s water problem.
Last January, the university said RM3mil was used to build six tube wells and install six piping systems to alleviate the issue.
However, last month, Zambry said more time was needed to solve the basic supply problem at UMS.
