JOHOR BARU: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has made it into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for the longest non-stop live broadcast of a mechanical engineering lecture here.

The university’s mechanical engineering dean Assoc Prof Dr Zaini Ahmad said that the record was broken at about 9am on Wednesday (June 5) after a total of 24 hours of continuous lecture involving some 60 lecturers.

“We kickstarted the lecture at 9am on Tuesday (June 4), and it went on continuously for 24 hours until 9am today.

“The lecture was streamed live online, attracting viewers not just from Malaysia but from around the globe,” he said during a press conference after receiving the certificate from the MBOR.

He further noted that besides the handful of students who were physically present, at least 1,000 individuals tuned in from countries including the United States, Germany, Egypt, and Indonesia.

“Even during the early hours of the morning, we maintained an online audience, as they were based in different time zones.

“This was also a way for us to highlight the breadth of knowledge within our faculty and our ability to provide flexible and hybrid lectures,” he added.
